15 BEST MOTIVATIONAL MOVIES WORTH WATCHING

Are you struggling to find inspiration? Going through a stage in life where you are feeling unmotivated and uninspired can be quite difficult. The best inspirational movies leave an indelible impression on the viewer. You need daily motivation to help you overcome all of the obstacles you will face in this line of work. And sometimes, it just gets so hard to even finish off a single day. That’s when you need inspiration. Movies have been, and still are, a source of inspiration for many. Movies have the power to challenge our limits, push our understandings, and invoke powerful emotions.

Here are 15 most motivational movies of all time worth watching:

1.    THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (1994)

IMDB rating: 9.3

The Shawshank Redemption is an ode to hope. The undisputed leader on IMDB's top 250, this classic follows Andy Dufresne during his 19 years of prison life and how his perseverance helps him escape the drudgeries of the Shawshank Prison. The movie indeed is about redemption, and as Andy escapes, you realize how important it is to keep faith and persevere. Because, you either "get busy living, or get busy dying".

It’s one of IMDB’s all-time top 10 movies. Two imprisoned men bond over a period of many years, finding solace and eventual redemption through acts of common decency. The protagonist Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) manages to make the best out of a very bad situation (being imprisoned for a false murder). Through perseverance, he manages to achieve more than he ever thought possible. Morgan Freeman plays the other main character, and their chemistry is unmatchable.

The message of the movie is highly inspiring. It shows you how important it is to never ever give up, no matter how difficult things seem to be.

2.    ROCKY (1976)

IMDB rating: 8.1

This is the classic underdog story. Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) is given the chance to fight the heavyweight champ. He has an opportunity to make a better life for himself by going head to head with the challenge.

This movie teaches a lot about the competitive spirit, and will inspire you to get up and beat your competition (hopefully not literally!). Always remember this truth: “every champion was once a contendor who refused to give up”

The classic American story of grit and heart, Rocky was the film that shot Sylvester Stallone to stardom, Stallone having to sell his dog for money to buy food just weeks before a studio finally purchased his script for big dineros (don’t worry, he bought the dog back).

The movie is greatly inspiring and has become a symbol of fighting hard for one’s dreams. It will inspire you to be perseverant and to always get back up again when life smacks you down.

3.    127 HOURS (2010)

IMDB rating: 7.5

Based on the book Between a Rock and a Hard Place, James Franco brings Aron Ralston's tragic yet incredibly moving experience to the big screen. While exploring a remote canyon in Utah, Ralston gets trapped after a huge boulder falls on his arm. For almost a week, Ralston has to decide whether or not he needs to amputate his arm himself to try escape and possibly live or stay there till he can't hang on anymore.

The five days in the life of this lone trekker being trapped and his miraculous return to civilization is a story of survival. This film not only inspires us but makes us grateful for something we all take for granted - life.

The movie conveys quite a powerful message about hope. It shows you that you can turn even the most terrible situation around by doing whatever is necessary.

4. SCHINDLER'S LIST (1993)

IMDB rating: 8.9

Schindler’s List is based on the true story of a German businessman, Oskar Schindler who employed around one thousand Jewish people to work in his factory in Poland during World War II and later saved their life as well.

How much is a human life worth? “Schindler’s List” is the real-life story of a remarkable man who sacrificed his great wealth in order to save the lives of 1500 Jewish people from Nazi concentration camps. It’s the story of a man who died poor but with the knowledge that he rescued thousands from a grim destiny.

Oskar Schindler's arrangement to keep his Jewish workers protected to ensure his factory is still in operation did not only work for his benefit, but saved many innocent lives too. The plot of the story is a masterpiece, bringing out humanity warped in business in a time of war. The movie ends with the tragic fate of Schlinder despite the endeavors of the ones on his 'list' - a truly inspiring conclusion that will leave you in tears.

5. IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946)

IMDB rating: 8.6

Even though “It’s a Wonderful Life” was released more than 70 years ago, its message is still incredibly uplifting and heartwarming. The Christmas fantasy drama will inspire you to see your life in a much brighter light. It will encourage you to take responsibility for your life so that positive changes for yourself and those around you can be affected. Even more so, the movie is brilliantly convincing its audiences that every single one of us is quite important and that we all can make a true difference in life.

This movie is one that makes us value relationships. When an angel comes down as an answer to George Bailey's prayer wishing that he wasn't born, he begins to see how he has impacted his loved ones. Set in Christmas season, It's A Wonderful Life is truly a wonderful watch, leaving us inspired by its simple yet captivating plot.

6. FORREST GUMP (1994)

IMDB rating: 8.8

This is a beautiful story about a simple man with good intentions, who accidentally becomes a phenomenal success just by living the life he feels is right. It tells the beautiful tale of a simple-minded man whose kindness and good-heartedness makes him perceive life quite differently than those around him. He wins medals, becomes a professional ping-pong player, takes up running, owns a huge shrimping company, and inspires people all across the country.

The story revolves around the simple nature of Forrest (Tom Hanks) and how he proves that you don’t have to be a genius to achieve something. All you have to do is try. “Run, Forrest! Run!” Owing to itself possibly the single most well-known line in cinematic history, Forrest Gump is the kind of film that everyone needs to watch.

More than just a basic story of triumph over adversity or realizing success, Forrest Gump just feels like life itself. It’s not all good, or all bad, it’s everything and all kinds of different things all at once. It’s one of the only movies I’ve ever seen that somewhat correctly portrays what it’s like to live– a complicated mess where we, hopefully…eventually, come to a place where we figure it all out. At least enough to be happy.

Forrest Gump is a heartwarming story of a man who will leave you inspired with his childlike optimism. It is a meditation on our times, as seen through the eyes of a man who lacks cynicism and takes things for exactly what they are. Tom Hanks' performance is a breathtaking balancing act between comedy and sadness, in a story rich in big laughs and quiet truths.

7. THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS (2006)

IMDB rating: 8.0

This is one  of the best movies ever on never giving up. Will Smith’s amazing portrayal of Chris Gardner will give you goosebumps. This is a movie based on Chris’s memoirs. It was a best-selling book and then became a blockbuster movie. It adds in a gripping sense of reality that you don’t find in a lot of cheesy Hollywood movies. The movie features a powerful, yet simple message: Never give up.

Here’s a great line: “Hey. Don’t ever let somebody tell you can’t do something. Not even me. All right? You got a dream. You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.”

The Pursuit of Happyness” is an incredibly inspiring movie about how difficult it can be to achieve your dreams. This movie is based on the real life story of Chris Gardner, who invested a lot of money in a device which he thought would do great in the market but it turns out to be his biggest mistake. His wife leaves him, he had to leave his home as well and had to go through a lot of troubles before he finally meets success. What is so inspiring about the movie is that it comes with the message that you have to be willing to do whatever it takes in order to realize your dreams. It shows you that it is pointless to lament and complain about the difficulties of life.

8. 12 ANGRY MEN (1957)

IMDB rating: 8.9

As a dozen men try to reach a unanimous decision about a guilty verdict, Henry Fonda casts doubts on the elements of the case. This movie reinstates our faith in dialogue and reasoning proving that no decision is beyond change. As the debate heightens, personal issues surface and the fate of the inner city teen becomes secondary. The movie, though shot in one room, elaborately explores various aspects of human behaviour.

It has a great depiction is of tug of war between human minds arguments and subtle transparency of an innocent life of a convict.

The screenplay is very believable. Such is the acting quality of all actors that you get immersed into the plot & start thinking like one of the 12 men. It also showcases how one person, who can reason logically, can help change everybody else's opinion. It's a must watch for those who love a good mystery. Makes you think how justice is carried out.

9. JERRY MCGUIRE (1996)

IMDB rating: 7.3

This is a classic movie (based on a true story) that shows just what it takes to stay at the top. The protagonist (Tom Cruise) is faced with rejection and people keep turning their backs on him while he takes big leaps of faith. Slowly, he identifies the best road for him to follow, and ultimately ends up being successful in both business and life.

It teaches you about finding your true self and giving those who have a chance some patience and have some hope and that if you devote yourself and have passion for something you can make it happen. It is a movie which teaches us to do as our heart says us to in this cynical world where everybody mostly think about themselves alone. It is movie which tells us to be what we want to in our life and live it to our fullest.

10. REMEMBER THE TITANS (2000)

IMDB rating: 7.8

Remember The Titans is a movie about winning, perseverance, racism, and unity. It’s about seeing beyond the color of someone’s skin to what lies at the heart, who we truly are. It’s about worlds literally colliding and something absolutely incredible coming forth from it.

This inspiring movie accompanies a racially diverse high school football team on its great struggles during the football season in 1971.

What is so inspiring about this movie is that it teaches important lessons about acceptance, tolerance, and team spirit. The important message of the movie is that success can only be achieved if all the members of a team work together.

11. ALI (2001)

IMDB rating: 6.8

Ali is the story of the one and only boxing great Muhammad Ali played by Will Smith. Will Smith was made for this role and gets to flex his rhyme skills as Ali was known for having some serious skills himself.

But what this story is really about is being a fighter and overcoming all obstacles, a lesson the film displays masterfully. As you’ll see in the film, Ali battles much more than just his in-ring opponents, but the forces of racism and oppression as well.

If you love boxing, historical relevance, Will Smith, or stories of overcoming adversity than you won’t be disappointed.

Will Smith earned a Academy Award nomination for best actor in his portrayal as the boxing legend. The 2001 biopic covers Ali's trials and triumphs from emerging on the scene as an Olympic champion 1964 to the fight that became known "Rumble in the Jungle" in Zaire in 1974.

Frustrated and defiant, Ali rages against the powers that be, shouting at the top of his lungs, playing to the crowd, walking as he is talking, saying nothing and saying everything. You can feel his resolve hardening as the words keep coming, almost as if he is convincing himself, as if he is saying, “ They keep thinking they are gonna break me, but they are NOT gonna break me!”

12. THE BLIND SIDE (2009)

IMDB rating: 7.6

A story about kindness and seeing beyond race, Blind Side follows the true story of Michael Oher, a homeless black teen with a rough childhood, as he’s taken in by Leigh, her husband Sean, and rest of the Tuohy family.

What makes Blind Side memorable is the incredible mix of heartwarming moments and hilarious interruptions from an otherwise tense and challenging journey to grace. I can’t really think of another movie I’ve ever had such an amazing mixture of emotions.

More than just a single person’s pursuit of excellence or triumph over adversity, Blind Side is about what happens when we reach out to another person with kindness and compassion and how that can bring people together.

13. DEAD POETS SOCIETY (1989)

IMDB rating: 8.1

A depiction of a clash between realism and romanticism, juxtaposed with a conflict between traditional and conservative values, Dead Poets Society is Robin Williams at his best. A true inspiration, this movie will make you question the social and political norms that define your life. Dead Poets Society encourages you to dream and urges you to not be lazy in the pursuit of your aspirations.

A story of an English teacher who motivates his students to look at poetry with a different perspective of authentic knowledge and feelings, ‘Dead Poets Society’ accomplishes two simultaneous goals. Firstly, it comments on the routine lives we accept to live. And secondly it brings art and poetry and life in front of the layman and explains its beauty in simple yet effective terms.

“Dead Poets Society” is remarkably inspiring even though it is also quite sad at times. But the overall message of the movie is uplifting. The movie encourages you to forge your own path in life instead of living the life your family wants you to live.

“Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.”

14. THE WOLF OF WALL STREET (2013)

IMDB rating: 8.2

The movie is based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, who is now a motivational speaker. But, earlier he was a very successful stock broker who faced charges against stock market manipulation crimes and served 22 months in prison. Though, the movie has already set the world record for using the ‘f’ word maximum number of times but that doesn’t take away the message of the movie. If you are in the business of stock market, this movie is a must watch for you.

This movie isnt a generic biopic of prominent, respectable person but is based on a true story on a stockbroker named Jordan Belfort. It is a rollercoaster ride which takes Jordan from nobody to a rich man. This movie was quite inspiring and I absolutely enjoyed Belfort's character. He is clever, bold,risk-taking, badass, has a chill-out attitude, has effective leadership skills which made a synergistic effect over a team of 250.The movie also showed that some incidents or people in our life might show us a complete new different direction  which may be positive or negative like in the movie Mathew guided Belfort how to earn more money ,how to deal with the customers. This leaded a significant change in Belfort's personality.

This movie just doesn’t show the classic things about someone gets rich and how things change, like how it’s shown in any other movie but it shows u perfectly that every consequence you face it’s based on the decisions you take.

This movie captures the true essence of the want for money and what it can do to someone. The film is like a roller coaster as we follow Jordan Belfort from a nobody to a rich man who can have whatever he wants when he wants it.

15. CAST AWAY (2000)

IMDB rating: 7.8

This movie is heartwarming, uplifting and – of course – amazingly inspiring. It’s about a man’s boundless will to return to his beloved wife after being stranded on an island surrounded by nothing but water.

When FedEx employee Chuck Noland’s plane crashes, he ends up stranded on a deserted tropical island for four years, with an inanimate volleyball named Wilson as his only friend. Deemed an “existential blockbuster” for the 21st century, not a whole lot of action occurs during Cast Away’s 143-minute running time. But Hanks’ long beard and survival scenarios generated an iconic character and film.

The movie's power and effect center on the island. Chuck, the time-and-motion man, finds himself in a world without clocks, schedules, or much of a future. There's something wonderfully pathetic about the way he shouts "Hello? Anybody?" at the sand and trees.

It gives a powerful message out there, that with what ever you have and any situation you might be in just make the best of it.

CONCLUSION:

A great film strikes through to the heart of what it means to be human, inspiring the mind and moving the spirit. Underdog stories, tales of incredible transformation, overcoming immense hardship, and the journey of an average person to heroism - such tales stay with us forever and inspire in us something that we never knew was there.
